Coaches Questions & Answers

1) My daughter has just started playing little league and is struggling with learning where each player is allowed to go. Can you recommend a good web site that i can look at with her and perhaps get pitch printoff of all the positions and where they are allowed on the court? Julie

Hi Julie - take a look at www.englandnetball.co.uk, go to 'The Game' Just to point out though, that Little League is not playing High Five Netball so look at the section 'Playing Netball' and then 'Rules of the game'

2) Am i right to tell the G/A to get out of the centre third, if i see myself- G/D and W/D are already in there? Why would she want to stay there so long, esp if we are there? As she is needed, in the circle to SHOOT!

There are no rights or wrongs here and it would very much depend on the situation, e.g. did she run up to offer herself to receive a ball, was WA in the goal 1/3 etc. It is important that your team balance the court by ensuring players are distributed where needs be. I would recommend that in most cases your GA should be focused on receiving the ball in the end third and allowing defencive players or your C, WA to bring the ball up court, this will prevent the centre 1/3 becoming over crowded Something you could practise that can help address 'areas of play' is court linkage, basically taking the ball down court from a back line pass GK/GD/WD/C/WA/GA/GS, then maybe introduce slight variations e.g. GK/WD/GD/C/WA/GA/GS**

3) what is the height of a netball post

- it's 10' feet, although for High Five netball [for 9 - 11 year olds] it's 9' and for First Step Netball [for 7 - 9 year olds] it's 8'. High Five Netball is not currently played in Birmingham.
